How IARSS AlignED Works
The AlignED Continuous Improvement Framework provides a systematic, collaborative approach to strengthening schools and districts through continuous learning, implementation, and reflection. Grounded in the principles of Systems Thinking and Collaborative Leadership Teams, the framework helps educational organizations align people, processes, resources, and practices around a shared vision for student success.
At the center of the framework is a disciplined Focus on the highest-leverage priorities that matter most for students and the unique context of each school or district. Through an ongoing cycle of Identify & Plan, Implement & Monitor, and Examine & Reflect, teams use data, evidence, and collective expertise to understand challenges, implement effective strategies, monitor progress, and continuously refine their actions.
A Framework for Continuous Improvement
The AlignED Continuous Improvement Framework

Anchor

Focus
Focus serves as the anchor of the AlignED framework, helping schools and districts concentrate on a limited number of high-leverage priorities. By maintaining clarity around what matters most, teams can avoid initiative overload, align resources, and sustain meaningful improvement over time.
Guiding Principle
Systems Thinking

Schools and districts function as interconnected systems, not isolated programs or initiatives. AlignED helps teams align leadership, resources, structures, and practices around shared goals to create coherent and sustainable improvement.
Guiding Principle
Collaborative Leadership Teams

Sustainable improvement requires shared ownership. AlignED brings together diverse leadership teams to build collective responsibility, strengthen decision-making, and create the trust and collaboration needed to support continuous improvement
